  • Do you offer office visits or home visits?
    Brooke Simmons Lactation Services is happy to offer both office and home visits. Her office is located within Sunshine Pediatrics at 210 Lookout Place in Maitland. She is also available for home visits*. Brooke also sees families at Heart 2 Heart Birth Center located at 1110 Lexington Green Lane in Sanford.   • How quickly can I get an appointment?
    Brooke understands the time-sensitive nature of lactation services and empathizes with worried parents. In the event of a serious concern, or a baby in crisis, same day appointments may be available. Otherwise, there is typically a 24 hour window between a client calling and being scheduled for an appointment.
  • Do you offer breastfeeding classes?
    Yes! Brooke offers both private one on one breastfeeding classes as well as group breastfeeding classes. Group classes are offered at Heart 2 Heart Birth Center in Sanford. Please visit the scheduling page for all available dates!
  • What forms of payment do you accept?
    We can take any major credit card (Visa, MasterCard, Discover or American Express), Cash. You may also use any FSA/HSA funds provided you have a debit card for the account. Payment is due at time of service. A credit card is required when booking appointment to hold your time, but your card is not charged until your appointment. At this time Brooke is not accepting checks as a form of payment.
  • Do you accept insurance?
    Brooke Simmons Lactation Services is not currently an in-network provider with any insurance company. She is happy to provide you with a Lactation Visit Receipt. (It is also referred to as a SuperBill.) The SuperBill has all of the information that is needed to submit a claim to your insurance company for reimbursement. This is not a guarantee that services are covered. It is up to the client to work with their insurance company. Brooke will not speak to your insurance company on your behalf regarding your reimbursement. It is up to you to submit your claim to your insurance company and speak to them regarding any matters on reimbursement. Payment is due at the time of service. If you are reimbursed, the insurance company will reimburse you, not Brooke Simmons Lactation Services.
  • Are you fully vaccinated?
    Yes, Brooke is vaccinated against COVID-19 and as well as all up to date on all other vaccinations.
  • Is breastfeeding supposed to hurt?
    While there may be some discomfort, breastfeeding should not cause pain. If you are experiencing pain, please call and schedule an appointment for a consultation. It may be something as simple as a positioning or latch issue. Breastfeeding should be an enjoyable experience for both mother and baby. If you are experiencing pain, Brooke is there to help make things better for you!
  • I had problems breastfeeding my first child. Does this mean I will have the same problems with my second child?
    Every baby is different! In cases like this, prenatal consultations can be especially important. Brooke will work with you to talk about your fears, troubleshoot what may have stood in the way of your breastfeeding success, and create a plan for the future. Once your baby has arrived, be sure to call Brooke and set up your first consultation with your new baby(ies).
  • What is your cancellation/rescheduling policy for appointments?
    We kindly ask that you cancel your appointment twenty-four hours prior to your appointment. This will ensure that another mom and baby in need of an appointment can be scheduled. We understand that things happen and may prevent you from keeping your scheduled appointment. If you cancel with less than 24hr notice, you will be charged a cancellation fee. If you or anyone in your family has been sick, please contact Brooke Simmons Lactation Services to reschedule your appointment. Brooke will also contact you in the event that she is sick and cannot keep the scheduled appointment. Brooke takes illness very seriously! Please let her know if you or someone in your home is ill.
  • I am scheduled for an in home lactation visit with Brooke Simmons Lactation Services. Should I worry if my home is not clean and the dishes are not done beforehand?
    Not at all! Brooke is there to help you with breastfeeding! There is no need to worry about cleaning your home before she arrives! Spend the time enjoying your new baby!
  • If I just have a quick breastfeeding question, do I still need to make an appointment?"
    If you have never been seen by Brooke, then yes! An appointment is necessary! Brooke is unable to give any advice without getting the full medical history for you or your baby. She will also need to get consent forms signed prior to working with you. This is per Brooke's malpractice insurance!
  • How do I prepare for my visit with Brooke?
    Brooke will email you all of your health history and consent forms prior to your visit. This must be completed prior to your appointment so that she can get started with your visit right away instead of working on paperwork! Office Visits: -Please have your baby ready for a feeding when you arrive. -Please bring your breast pump with you to your visit. -Please list any and all supplements you are taking in health history paperwork. -Make a list of questions you have. Home VIsits: -Have your breast pump clean and ready for use. -Please list any and all supplememnts and medications you are taking in your health history paperwork. -Make a list of questions that you have. -If you have pets, please have them put away for the visit. Brooke is an animal lover, but sometimes pets can get very territorial over their new tiny human!
  • Will all of my breastfeeding issues be resolved in one visit or will I need mulitple visits?
    Brooke will come up with a care plan that will best fit you and your baby. But not all breastfeeding issues get fixed overnight and sometimes follow up visits are necessary.
